I'm sooo loving sleek...

I remember being 13 years old and saving up all my pocket money for a month and heading over to Paks Cosmetics (an Afro hair and beauty shop in North London) to buy my very first foundation.
I didn't actually need foundation at that age but I desperately wanted to own one for the sake of it really.
I remember the Iman cosmetics being far too expensive along with all the Mary Kay products so I opted for a Sleek foundation which was really good quality, a good match for my skin and also ridiculously inexpensive. I think I fell in love with sleek products ever since and haven't looked back!
I genuinely feel that I've grown up with Sleek products and like a proud consumer I'm so happy its finally getting the popularity and recognition it deserves. Back then you could only get sleek in cosmetic stores like Paks but now it's all over the major stores like Superdrug, Boots and a load of other shops.

I've recently fell in love with make-up all over again after a 3 year hiatus. I wouldn't say I've been completely make up free for all that time, but I really don't depend on it as much as I used to and I can be found most days with little or no make-up.

Anyways back to my original reason for this post, I purchased two new Sleek products over the week and I'm totally smitten by them and cannot wait to experiment this party season.

I literally paid for it then dropped it within 5 mins
hence the missing piece of glass

There are so many exciting palettes from Sleek
but I decided to play it safe this time round.

I adore these colours and can't wait to practise the smokey
eye look with these colours.

These golden tones are also perfect for the party season

I've worn this lip gloss ever since I bought it. LOVE!
I bought both items from Superdrug and although I don't remember how much I paid for them I do know they were relatively cheap and very affordable. I'm looking forward to stocking up on more Sleek goodies in the next few weeks so I'll keep you posted.

Just nail it...

I'm thoroughly enjoying experimenting with my nails at the moment, trying different designs and colours. I'm only a beginner and I don't have the right varnishes to really do the patterns I would like; but I'm doing my best! Lol! I'm hoping that Santa sends some nail decor my way (hint, hint).
Here are a two of my recent designs:

What d'you think???

Who you calling fat??? WARNING THIS IS A RANT (lol)

It's been one of those weeks again when people feel the need to tell me I've put on weight!
Well duh, don't you think I 've noticed and why do you feel it's your duty to tell me (and rather smugly)!

What annoys me the most about this is that with some people, three years have passed since they saw me last and not only did my body inhabit a living being for 9 months, my body actually resembles that of a woman now, and I doubt it occurred to them that I was actually happy with the new found thunder in my thighs and jiggle in my wiggle. LOL!

With all jokes aside, I just find it really irritating that people feel that you must be a gluttonous pig if you put on weight or are slightly rounder, thicker, wobblier than the so called norm. FYI, I eat healthily and go to the gym too, thank you very much!
I don't want to sound like I am preaching but seriously, beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and my size now happens to be a UK size 14 which is not big at all, just bigger than the size 8 shapeless child frame that I was known for when I was 21.(Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a size 8 (size 8 is beautiful too), but I personally wasn't in the best of health when I was that size.)  I can honestly say I am super confident with this size and love that I actually go in and come out in places that used to be straight lines.

Obviously there are days when I wish I didn't have so many rolls in my stomach and wish my thighs didn't wobble so much when I wear short skirts, but I've learned to love and respect the way I look and accept my many flaws. I refuse to apologise for eating and I'm sure some of the beautiful women below feel the same way too!

I've got rolls, and what?

I effing love this woman!

Love from Africa take 2....

Thanks to the lovely Adaora at fashion fades, I finally know who designed the gorgeous dresses I blogged about yesterday. They are by Vlisco a Holland based wax company who specialise in designing and producing amazing fabric that forms a large part of West African culture.

Since finding out about the company, I have been on my laptop non stop in awe of their amazing creations. Here are a few of my favourites...

Monday Morning Procrastination...

I really don't feel like doing anything today, especially working! Unfortunately bills need to get paid, Shoes need to be bought, so here I am typing away at my desk on this very gloomy Monday morning!

I thought I'd share this quote with you all as it made me smile...

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same"

Said by a true fashion guru, Coco Chanel. (Love her!)

Hope you all have a fabulous week ahead...

Love from Africa...

I've been thinking long and hard about a dress for my 25th birthday. Although it is still a while away (June) I really want to nail this one. For some reason turning 25 is a massive deal in my family so I want to make sure my dress is one of a kind and simply breath taking!
As you probably know by now, I'm really into the whole 'Africa meets the West' vibe when it comes to fashion so I think I want to head down that route.
The funniest thing is, I used to cringe when my mother used to make me wear traditional garments at family events, simply because they were miniature versions of what she would wear and dressing like your mum when you're in your teens is more or less social suicide; but the amalgamation of the two cultures and the fact that I can express my cultural heritage without looking or dressing like my very African mother fills me with great joy.

Here are a few images that have really inspired this decision.

I especially love the one in the middle,
It's divine!

I'm not sure who the designer is for these gorgeous dresses, but he or she is a genius!
I'll keep you posted on how my birthday dress pans out.. MWAH...
